The Start of your Story!

Dear Little Riceling (this will stay your name for the blog),
February 9, 2016 is when everything began. I had my second extra high blood pressure reading in the office and met daddy at home before going to labor and delivery.
Once we were there mommy had her blood pressure taken several times. Like many other visits the cause for going in disappeared once we were there. My blood pressure was back to normal for my pregnancy. Daddy and I were sure we would be sent home again without your arrival.
Before we were discharged the doctor decided to have a biophysical profile done. Mommy thought for sure we would be going home. You and I had done several of these and your heartrate had been monitored during the blood pressure checks so you only had 3 things left to be checked. We were given an ultrasound and aost immediately you moved now two things were left. Fluid levels around you were measured and they passed, one thing left. You were given a full 30 minutes as the technician daddy and I watched the screen waiting for a practice breath. You had done many of these during other tests and ultrasounds multiple times. Daddy and mommy held our breath as the last two minutes went by. Ten seconds were left and still you hadn't practiced breathing. We were told before coming down that if you failed this test mommy would most likely be getting induced. Five seconds left mommy held a hand up to daddy and began the countdown on her fingers but daddy didn't notice he was watching you hoping to meet you soon. Times up and you had failed trying to practice breathing. We waited for what seemed like an eternity as the technician called mommy's Dr to see what should be done.
Finally the technician came out and sent mommy and daddy upstairs for mommy to be admitted. So happy we would see you soon mommy and daddy went back up to labor and delivery realizing just how hungry we were. We had been at the hospital for hours.
The midwife on duty until 7pm that day didn't think mommy should have been admitted but we didn't care it was my Dr who got to make that call. That night mommy started the induction process.
The first step was very uncomfortable and mommy could barely sleep that night. The next morning mommy was told she could eat a very light breakfast before being started on oxytocin. Daddy went to the cafeteria and brought up breakfast for mommy.
At 7am mommy was started on the oxytocin and had had her last meal before your arrival. Sometime during the day after oma and Grandad had arrived mommy had reached her limits for contractions and got an epidural. At 7pm the midwife broke my water and you didn't respond well. Mommy immediately felt nauseous and asked for something to throw up in and your heartrate dropped. They put mommy on her side and everything calmed down. The midwife tried to put an internal monitor on your head and when it touched your head you moved back up to safety. That night the nurse kept coming in and making mommy go on her side and put the oxygen mask on. Mommy was worried but knew we were in good hands. At one point mommy bad to get on her hands and knees because going onto her side just wasn't quite good enough.
The next morning a little before 9am mommy felt ready but her catheter had gotten in the way. The midwife came in removed the catheter and had mommy push but nothing happened. She told the nurse to let mommy push a few more times and if nothing happens we would have down labor. Mommy was determined you were ready. The midwife left and mommy daddy and the nurse proceeded. A few pushes later mommy was told she had to breathe through the contractions until the midwife was back.
After what felt like an eternity the midwife entered the room and seemingly took her sweet time getting ready (I'm sure it was just a few minutes total but it felt like forever). The moment was here you were crowning and mommy was ready. The midwife got ready and then mommy pushed and your head was out. Daddy beamed and said you had his ears with tears in his eyes. Midpush mommy was told to stop pushing, your cord was around your neck and the midwife had to untangle you so it wouldn't tighten. Mommy tried her hardest not to push until the midwife said okay. One push more and you shot out (look up the Doritos Superbowl commercial for this year and that's what you did). For the next eternity, probably about 10-15 seconds, mommy waited hoping to not hear a thud because no one could catch a slippery wet baby moving that fast. Suddenly you were crying and being put on mommy's tummy. Daddy and mommy cried with you and then mommy started singing your lullabye and you started to calm down some. Daddy cut the cord and the nurses dried you off a bit before taking you to get weighed and measured. They put ink on your long yet tiny feet and got your footprints and then put them on daddy's shirt. You were given back to me and daddy went to let oma, granddad, Mimi, aunt Bailey, Noah, and Maddie know you were here.

I love you,
Mommy
